John A.'s Story
Dear Camelback Alumni,
I am retired, United States Navy having served 4 tours of duty off the coast of Vietnam. Just out of high school in September of 1964, while serving aboard a US Navy destroyer, the USS Morton, DD-948, our ship was involved in the second "Gulf of Tonkin Incident." One of two encounters that would plunge the United States into its longest ever fought war. A war that would take the lives of "several" Camelback Spartans. These brave Spartans paid the ultimate price to keep South Vietnam a free place to live.
John 15:13
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

CAN THE "CLASS OF 1964" DO A MEMORIAL ON CAMPUS FOR ALL OF OUR BELOVED SPARTENS WHO DIED IN VIETNAM?
Each Sunday my wife Joyce (Wilson) Altfeltis and I have an opportunity to teach Vietnamese children the precious Word of God in both their Children's Church and Sunday School programs. A most coveted healing process for the two of us. Joyce and I will be married 42 years on June 14, 2010. I praise God daily for the faithful wife He has given me. A wife who has been at my side through the good times and even more important, the terrible war years.
Fair Winds, Following Seas,
John A. Altfeltis, USN-Retired
